A Tailored Education

A Tailored Education
Well it's something ever homeschool parent faces year after year. The search for the perfect curriculum. Are you guilty of ordering a curriculum that you planned on using year after year through all of your kids only to find out it worked for one and not the other? Your not alone. I remember when I first started homeschooling my son, I purchased Abeka. I loved Abeka and still do. He did great in it and so when my middle daughter was school age we jumped right in with Abeka. First it started out ok but then the trouble began. My daughter was struggling with phonics and reading and I started pulling my hair out! Why wasn't this curriculum working ? I though I was failing my daughter because she wasn't  understanding phonics and was really struggling to read. So after lots of prayer I came to the conclusion that Abeka was not for her. What was I going to do? I searched the internet over for a curriculum that would work for her needs. This began my journe…

Homeschool Rhythm- Why you need it!

Hello Friends,
Well, once again I woke up to grumpy kids not wanting to do school. Are you like me, do you struggle with getting your day going especially if you homeschool? Well, that is why a homeschool Daily Rhythm is so important. Not only will you feel more relaxed but so will your kids.
What is a homeschool rhythm? Well, it is how your day starts and ends and everything in between. How it ebbs and flows. Most of us have a rhythm to our days and we may not even know it. But is our rhythm hectic or peaceful? This is what I want to emphasize on today, making a peaceful homeschool rhythm. Many of us have a routine which in a way is a rhythm. We may wake up, eat breakfast, do some chores and start school. But is it peaceful? I know sometimes my mornings are so hectic and the kids are so grumpy it sets the mood for the entire day. This is just stressful, it makes me feel so sad that the day did not go as planned and the atmosphere was gloomy.  So how can we make a better rhythm to ou…

Easiest way to homeschool multiple children!

Easiest Way to Homeschool Multiple Children

Hey friends,

Today I want to share with all you homeschoolers out there one of the easiest ways to homeschool multiple children in different grades. I feel like I have some insight on this because I have children who are in different grades and homeschool them at the same time.  First of all, if you have children that are close to the same grade or learning level, this is a cinch. You will want to take the Charlotte Mason approach to homeschool which I have down when my girls were at a closer learning level. It's great to incorporate science, history, even language arts when your children are at the same level because the great thing about this is that you can read aloud the lesson or story discuss it out loud with the kids, then have them independently do some writing or worksheet at their level pertaining to the lesson. Also, I feel children learn better when listening to a story or lesson and then verbally discussing it. When your chi…

Do your Circumstances define you?

Mansion...........or................cottage? Whatever your circumstances are, be blessed and content!

Do you live in a big house? Do you live in a trailer? Do you have a lot of money or a little bit of money?

Do your circumstances define who you are or does your outlook on your circumstances define you?
This is what came to me today as I was looking around at where I live and what I have. Some people
may think that I live meagerly or don't have nice things. We live in a small home that is about 1400 sq ft. with three bedrooms in which my two girls share one of those rooms. It is not a new home but a fixer-upper which still has lots of fixing to do. We drive used cars, nice cars but used.  We buy clothes from the thrift stores and my dishes are from a yard sale. I own the same shirts that I got handed down to me over 5 years ago and if I am being honest probably longer than that. We wear our shoes until we absolutely need a new pair and the same with our jeans. Now I could look a…

Merry Christmas From The Humble Homestead!

Merry Christmas

It's that time of year!
Time to embrace the Christmas Season and all its hustle and bustle. But let's not forget the real reason we celebrate Christ-mas. We have so much to be grateful for and especially the birth of our Saviour. As the commercials promote buying cars and expensive jewelry as a Christmas gift for a loved one let's remember that celebrating our Saviour doesn't cost a thing. That spending time, baking cookies, or playing board games with our family doesn't cost a thing either. We tend to get so caught up in the gift-giving that we forget what we should really be dwelling on and that is LOVE! The Love that Jesus gives us freely if we will just let him into our lives and the Love we get from family. I am at fault for getting caught up in the gift-giving and trying to give my kids a nice Christmas there is nothing wrong with that as long as you don't go into debt for it. But the Lord quickens my spirit when I start getting overwhelmed …

The End of Youtube!

Hey guys,

This is just a short update about what's been going on lately. So I am sure most of you know that youtube and the FTC and Coppa are changing the way content creators mark their videos. Thus I have decided to delete all my videos. The FTC is regulating videos and are forcing creators to check videos as (made for kids) or (Not made for kids) the problem with this is that if you check that your videos are made for kids you will no longer receive comments or be able to play certain ads on your channel and your monetization goes down. Now there is a huge grey area about what is considered made for kids. For example, if your video has the words Fun or Cool in it or if you have pets or children in the video, this is appealing to kids and would be considered made for kids. Even if you have bright or vibrant colors or there are games, toys or certain cereals in your video that would be considered appealing to kids. So basically all of my videos would be considered Made for kids.…

Hello Everyone!

I just wanted to pop on and say, I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving. I know my last post was a little gloomy but I am so grateful for all the Lord has blessed me with. As I sit here to write, I think about all that I am grateful for. If we take out a piece of paper and write down all we are thankful for our list will be enormous. I know that it is easy to focus on the negative in our lives but God has given us so much. If we just sit back and really ponder on our blessings you will be surprised. You may not have the fanciest car or the biggest house. You may not have the greatest job or the most expensive clothes. Folks let me tell you that material things are so overrated. Let's focus on what we do have and count each blessing. Do you have a home? Do you have clothes and food? Are your children healthy and safe? There are so many people in the world that don't even have the basics. And I pray that the Lord blesses those in need. We have such a short t…

When it rains it pours!

Well hello, friends,

Its been a while since I last posted and for good reasons. I feel like this last year everything concerning my life has been under attack by the devil. I am physically and emotionally drained from it all. Sometimes when you think life is going along all hunky dory.....then BAM! Life throws a curveball. Let me tell you all that we have had anything and everything that could go wrong with our vehicles you name, it happened. My car needed a whole new front end and new tires. My husband needed new tires. My sons truck is always needing something. And the clutch went out on the little commuter car we have. Sigh....... Not only did all that happen it all happened in the same month. I am having some physical problems which I won't go into. We have animals needing vet visits. Financial stress, Doctors bills to pay and not to mention just daily life. Not only am I emotionally spent but it is taking a toll on my relationships with my kids and husband.  And now here we…

It's a love hate relationship!

Eva in a Kayak

I know I'm not the only one that feels this way.

Oh, the woes of raising kids in a technology type of world! Do you feel me? I have a love-hate relationship with technology. I love it because it allows me to work from home. I can educate my kids for free because of the internet. I can order anything to my heart's content. I mean I can even pay my bills and do all my banking without ever leaving my home. There are so many other reasons why I love it......But then there is the reason why I loathe it so much. First of all, technology takes away from being in the moment and just living life as God intended it. I wish in so many ways that we could just go back in time and live like the pioneers. Without technology, families were in tune with each other and worked hard as a family. You didn't have to tell your kids to take a break from playing video games or watching Netflix. I don't know about you but my kids tend to get stinky attitudes when the…

Hello Everyone,

Well, we are rounding out our 2018 -2019 school year with only 10 days of school left. Yay!!! My kids are so excited to finish their books and get ready for a new year. This year I have decided to switch my youngest daughter's curriculum up a little. Why you ask??? Well, I feel that she needs to be a little more challenged and is very capable of doing more formal schooling. For instance like a workbook style. She has been using my curriculum A Christian Delight Directed Curriculum which has worked out great for the last several years. But she learns well and catches on quickly in a workbook style where the pages and instructions are all there and all she has to do is open and go. So we will be trying out the Flash Kids curriculum this year and will see how she does. She is very excite…

4-H and Kids!

Hey everyone!

Today I finally feel like I can breathe. We have been so busy with 4-H and now that fair is over its time to relax. I wanted to talk a little bit about 4-h and why I think it is such an awesome project for kids to do. I personally have never done 4-h as a kid but we decided to sign my middle daughter up because she is such and animal lover and felt it would be a great outlet for her. Let me just say she has found her calling and totally loves doing this. This is her second year doing 4- h and she decided to raise a market goat again. One reason I like 4- h is because you sign up and have meetings and book learning through out the year but the actual raising of the animal is about 5 months. This is perfect for my daughter you usually tires of taking care of her goat by the time fair rolls around. Don't get me wrong she loves her goat so much and actually the hardest part about raising market goats is that you have to auction them off at the end of fair. It'…

Daughter: Mom can I look up some information on Greek Mythology today???

Me: Why, yes you can !!!! Let me show you a website that is safe for you to use.

This was the question my daughter came and asked me today. I was so thrilled! Here she is doing her school and reading different books for literature, and the book she is reading right now is about Greek Mythology which she chose to read. This is why I love Delight Directed Learning. Now she is going to go one step further and start researching this topic all on her own.  She showed me a little folder that she started that has information about Greek Mythology. When you give a child the freedom to learn about things that interest them, they tend to dig a little deeper because it's a subject they like. This has especially rang true for my 13 year old daughter. …

Frugal Feminine Products???

Yep, that's right today we are going to talk about feminine hygiene!

A little while back I was watching a youtube video about how there are harmful chemicals in feminine products which I have been using since starting my menstrual cycle at 12 yrs old. GASP!!!! I am so mad at myself that I never researched this myself instead I just did what every woman does, just go to the store and grab the pads and tampons off the shelf without ever looking at the ingredients. I just assumed that they were safe. If you haven't checked out HeritageWays on youtube I highly recommend you check out her 3 part series on Feminine Hygiene. Anyways after watching those videos I decided to find all-natural reusable products. I first started with cloth pads byTeamoy. I got a multi-pack with different sizes and a wet bag. Let's…

Bruneau Sand Dunes State Park!!

The new Rig!

Hey everyone!!

Wow , what an awesome camp trip we just took to Bruneau Sand Dunes State Park! I wanted to share with you all about it. This was our first camp trip with our new to us Fifth wheel trailer. Lets just say it was time for an upgrade from our 1978 18 foot prowler that we have camped in for 8 years with five people and two dogs.  Now our camp trips consist of 5 people and 3 dogs, so we definitely needed a bigger trailer, with an actual bed for us parents !!!! Anyways on to the park, Bruneau San Dunes is located 64 miles South of Boise Idaho. It is desert camping so you would want to try this park in spring weather like we did. Summer time would be just too hot I think. The camp ground was very nice and clean with pull through and back in sites. It also  had  electric and water hook ups. They  had restrooms and showers available .  When leaving the camp ground there was a dump site so that you could…

Homeschooling Year Round!

Hey Everyone!!!

Todays topic is why we homeschool year round. I know alot of people think I am crazy for doing this but lets discuss why I do it!

First of all I wish we could take the summer off from school it would be great to sleep in, do fun outside activities and go on all kinds of field trips for 3 months. But lets be honest even with just the weekend our kiddos can go brain dead and forget last Fridays subject information. Trust me I know first hand what that is like. 😞 . My kids go totally blank when we take vacation time so this is why we school year round, I like that our schedule never changes and my kids know what to expect 365 days a year. Do they complain about this? Well maybe a little when friends say they have the summer off but for the most part it is just our way of life. This doesn't mean we never take a break of course we take  a week at Thanks giving and two weeks at Christmas off and then whenever we get a chance to camp we take some days off there also. Sch…

Why I created A Delight Directed Curriculum!!!

Disclaimer: This site uses affiliate links which means, that I will earn a small commission if you click on the links and purchase something. Which helps me out! God Bless!

Hello everyone!

Today I just wanted to give a short little explanation about my curriculum books that I have created for my children. First of all, I created them specifically for my daughter that learns differently from the norm. She is a right-brained thinker and a very artistic and critical thinker. My daughter did not like the standard read and answer questions as most curriculum books are laid out this way. So I had to get creative. I realized she learned best when she was able to choose a subject that interested her, and the information stuck in her head! I was so thrilled! So I scoured the internet trying to find a curriculum that would do just what she needed. I did not find anything that I liked so I decided to create my own. And so A Christian Delight Directed Curriculum was born!!! Both of my girls use …

Hey everyone!!!!

I have a treat for you today! Have you ever looked at the clock and realized it was 3pm and wondered what you were going to have for dinner? Did you forget to thaw out some meat the night before? Well, let me just say you are not alone. I have been in the same boat multiple times. That's when you need a Pressure cooker. There are so many pressure cookers on the market today and they basically do the same thing so I highly recommend you get one. I personally have the Power Pressure Cooker XL (as seen on T.V.) I love it, and use it almost every day! So here I am and its 3 o, clock and I am scrambling to cook something for dinner. I look in my freezer and see that I have chicken, then I head to the pantry and see some canned green beans and potatoes. Score!!!! I have a meal. But how to get it all…
