Best Curriculum Ever!!!
Hello Everyone!
I hope you are enjoying the start of Spring. I know we are here in Idaho. Its been a while since I have had the chance to post anything. We have had some rough months which include sickness, homestead clean up and a few close friends and family members have gone on to be with the Lord. The Lord has showed me that time goes by so fast and is reminding me whats important in this life. To love the Lord and are family and friends,to spend quality time with them whenever we can because you never know when it may be the last time you see them. With that being said I have had to take a closer look at how I homeschool and why my joy as been smothered out. Sometimes when you have been homeschooling for awhile you tend to get in a rut. I know I have. My son who is a ninth grader is pretty independent and needs very little help, which is great for me. My fifth grader and second grader are another story. They need my constant help and guidance and I feel frazzled and tired from trying to get them to do school and actually enjoy it. Lately I feel as though I am a drill sergeant and always yelling at them and as I look at my day I realize this is not how I envisioned homeschooling. My fifth grader is a very creative and visual learner, I believe she is a right brained thinker which makes the good old fashion workbooks where you read and answer questions hard and not fun at all. I have even tried Online schooling for the two younger ones but even that was not a good fit. This is where I believe the Lord led me to the most wonderful website ever! Its called www.funschoolingbooks.com and let me tell you this has changed our schooling for the better. These books are journals , and are laid out so the child can choose any books they want and turn it into a curriculum. For instance my daughters have chosen books on Volcanoes, Dinosaurs, George Washington, the Titanic ,Countries and Flags, Famous Scientists ect. and are able to learn from these books and use the journals to guide them. I find my girls starting school on there own with no prodding from me. They are staying more focused and excited about what they are learning because they are choosing things that interest them. I do guide them in the fact that I make them choose something for history and science. I am so excited about these books, no it is not your boxed curriculum but for my girls I believe delight directed learning is the way to go. After homeschooling for almost 9 yrs I am finally seeing that homeschool is not school at home but a way of life and that our days are full with life skills and book learning just not in a traditional way. Sometimes the Lord allows things to happen in your life to make you realize just how precious life is and how every moment with my children is a blessing from God. He gave me three beautiful kiddos to love and guide and to raise for his Glory and to show them that learning is fun and that is how God intended it to be! God Bless.
p.s. This doesn't mean that we never have rough days
anymore, unfortunately those days still exists!
